EXCLUSIVE interview: Alphabeat’s Stine talks touring with Gaga
26. January 2010

ALPHABEAT

The minute we found out that Alphabeat were touring with Lady Gaga next month we knew we had to grab them for all the gossip. We caught up with Alphabeat’s Stine for the lowdown on Gaga, their new album ‘The Spell’ and her plans for Valentine’s Day.

There’s a lot of reading for you guys to do here so they’ll be less blog posts for a bit this afternoon, just so you have plenty of time to enjoy it.

Congratulations on the new single “Hole in My Heart”, I’ve been listening to it a LOT. Your make up is gorgeous in the video.

S: Yeah, I like it too! (Laughs)

Do you have any make up tips for the zoegriffin.co.uk readers?

S: I like to keep it quite simple, I didn’t wear much around my eyes apart from a silvery eye shadow that was quite cool with the metal hairpiece I was wearing.

The single is released on February 22nd and it’s about failed relationships. So, the question we want to know is, have you got any plans for Valentines?

S: Ooo, well, we’ve never really celebrated valentines much in Denmark but we’re just starting to so I don’t know, I hope there’s a special guy out there who might take me out for a date.

So have you got anyone you’re hoping to get a present from?

S: There is a certain someone.

Are they going to be around when you’re on tour with Lady Gaga?

S: (laughs) Yeah…It’s difficult being on tour to start a relationship but maybe, hopefully.

How are you feeling about the tour?

S: Very, very exicted. Its quite an honour that she invited us to tour with her. We think Ms Gaga is an amazing pop artist and she does everything to 110% which is admirable.

Have you met Lady Gaga yet?

S: No, not yet.

So you know the legend but you’re not sure what she’s like behind the curtain?

S: Yeah, I know but we’ll see what happens. I think she’s gonna be a very cool person, I think she’s pretty much like she acts on TV and interviews.

Are there any tour venues that you’re particularly excited about visiting?

S: Well obviously playing The O2 is going to be quite a big thing, two nights in a row actually. I know my family and friends all want to come and so I hope I can get them all in. It’s sold out but that’s going to be amazing. I think every night’s going to be great as its all arenas and a lot of people are coming.

Are you slightly dreading the journeys as you travel from Liverpool to London and then straight off to Glasgow?

S: Yeah, It’s always planned quite badly on big tours I don’t know why but we always have the night bus so it’s actually quite comfy, you sleep and then you wake up and you’re there!

Do you have any superstitions when on tour?

S: Well I’m the kind of person who takes things as they come but I know Anders, my singer friend is, he needs things to be exactly how he expects it to be, you know like if his tambourine isn’t where he was told it was going to be he might, he never gets angry with anyone but he gets really nervous and I go ‘Oh No!’  We all have a little ritual that we all do just before we go on stage but that’s just kind of like a moment of silence.

Is that quite similar to something you’d do before a football game starts?

S: (Laughs) Yeah, I guess so we use to scream really loud but I think we decided that it was better with the silence.

I understand you’re quite a big fan of football?

S: Yeah, I love playing it, I used to have football practice for like four years and I was actually a goalie even though I’m extremely small but it was good fun and I like playing it on Playstation. But I don’t really follow a team although obviously I want Denmark to do well.

So you’ve never been tempted to visit one of the many teams in London?

S: ermmm no, I’m sure I would go if someone offered to take me.

Where is your favourite place to visit in London?

S: On Saturday’s I almost always go to Broadway Market where they have a little food market and I buy my lunch there with a friend.

Before you have to leave, I’d like to ask, what is your favourite track on the new album?

S: Umm.. It keeps changing… I really like Heat Wave, it’s one of the songs where I get to sing my heart out and I also really like Hole in My Heart because its one of the more darker songs on the album.

So were you going with a darker theme for the album?

S: I guess it’s a little bit less naive than last time but mainly we just wanted it to be more pop and more polished.

Final question: What’s your all time favourite song?

S: Ahh, that’s a difficult question! I’ve got a thing for Say a little prayer by Aretha Franklin, I think she wrote it to, that’s the version I always listen to.
