Alicia Keys believes that the upbringing she received growing up in New York is the reason why she always steered clear of drugs.
Speaking to You, Alicia explained that keeping grounded was the key to avoiding some of the darker temptations of fame:
“I always make sure I stay connected to the real world. The way I avoid temptations, what did it for me, was that I grew up around drugs, sex, alcohol and death.
“I think that when you see that in your life, you know what it does to you and have no desire to do it.”
We think it’s great that Alicia provides such a positive role model as a pop star. If only all stars could be as good as her.
