Lindsay Lohan broke down in court as she was sentenced to 90 days in jail and a further 90 days in a substance abuse programme yesterday.

Lindsay faces the harsh sentence after violating the terms of her probation.

The troubled star had repeatedly failed to turn up for court ordered alcohol eductation classes in Beverly Hills but tearfully appealed to the Judge that she didn’t realise that she had to be there and that work commitments had kept her away.

The Judge stated that her orders had been very clear and that the violation was not acceptable.

Lohan was on probation  for 2 instances of drinking under the influence from 2007.

It seems as though Lindsey was never really taking her punishment seriously. She missed a court date because she was too busy partying in Cannes earlier this year.

Then the actress was ordered to wear an alcohol detection bracelet which proved that she violated the ‘no alcohol’ terms of her sentence at the MTV awards recently.

Lindsey burst into tears as her sentence was announced and left court in tears with her sister and dad in tow. Her Mother, Dina, was not present.

We wonder whether she will serve more than 80 minutes this time!

The most shocking bit of showbiz news today, in my opinion, is Lindsay Lohan being sent to jail for 90 days. FINALLY!

Yes, I am intrigued by the news Cheryl Cole has malaria (from a luxury hotel in Tanzania!) and Ronaldo is taking his responsibilities as a father seriously (as the 25-year-old could have handed over some of his cash and run away).

But LiLo grabs my attention the most today as she’s been let off the hook for so long. If I lived like her with the stumbling around town at all hours, stalking ex’s and reportedly getting violent at the drop of a stocking then I’d have an ASBO by now. (Yes, I do those things sometimes but not to such an extreme extent)

With loopholes in American law, the former Mean Girls actress could get out in 22 days but will then spend 90 days in rehab. The reason she is going to jail is for violating probation by missing court-ordered alcohol rehab classes.

It all starts on 20 July, if she doesn’t do a runner by then. THAT wouldn’t shock me…

The MTV Movie Awards took place in LA last night and just like every year – the stars were out to shock!

Major gossip of the night was that Sandra Bullock made her first televised appearance since her husbands cheating ways were revealed to the world!

Sandra was awarded the MTV Generation Award and when accepting the highly acclaimed award her first comment was “Ok, Firstly, I’m not dead!”

Glad that we cleared that one up.

She then grabbed Scarlett Johansson and kissed her much to the crowds delight and Scarlett’s obvious shock!

She then said “Can we return to normal now”.

Looks like she wants all that nasty business done and dusted and we can’t blame her!

Tom Cruise shocked people everywhere in a move which suggests that he does in fact have a personality – who would have guessed it!

Cruise reprised his role from ‘Tropic Thunder’ as Les Grossman and took to the stage to perform a hip hop routine  with J-Lo.

Katie Holmes supported her husband from the front row and seemed to be delighted by his performance.

There were some seriously interesting outift choices going on as well.

Lindsay Lohan nearly exposed all in a skimpy playsuit with a plunging neckline which left little to the imagination.

The only thing people wanted to see of the troubled star was the tag which monitors the alcohol levels in her blood. Unfortunately, her floor length number scuppered those plans!

Katy Perry also dazzled in a sparkly number – not sure about the wig though!

Any one else bored of Twilight!? Jeez. We know he’s hot, there’s vampires involved and its all very brooding and romantic but please can we just move on!

Lindsay Lohan’s latest efforts to get herself back up on the silver screen may have been scuppered by her appearance in Court in Los Angeles today. She does not look impressed!

Lindsay was in Court over a 2007 dangerous driving charge which saw her charged for reckless driving, drunk driving and driving under the influence of cocaine. There’s an impressive hat trick!

Lindsay’s Court date was scheduled for last week but instead the troubled starlet partied until the small hours at the Cannes Film Festival in France and missed her Court date.

She today claimed that she had “lost” her passport. Hmmmm… seems a bit too convenient to us!

The Judge ruled that 23 year old Lindsay had failed to take her charges seriously and had not attended the alcohol education classes which were imposed on her. By missing her Court appearance to party in France, she has violated her probation.

The actress is due to start filming “Machete” which is a Robert Rodriguez film co-starring Robert de Niro and Jessica Alba.

The star has said that she see’s this as a chance to make a comeback with a movie project which is credible and has A List co-stars.

The starlet has been ordered to postpone her involvement in the film until July when she will be given another hearing.

Until then she has to wear an alcoholic monitoring bracelet and attend regular drug and alcohol testing in the Los Angeles area. The filming is taking place in Texas so this leaves Linds in a right pickle!

It seems that she’s not going to be able to wangle her way out of this one by using her celebrity status. And if she carries on like this much longer, we doubt anyone will be offering her any more film roles.

Could it all be over for Lohan? Watch this space people…

THE GOSSIP: Lindsay Lohan arrived at 2am, headed straight for the VIP area where she chainsmoked her way through the gig.

Sarah Harding was the most talkative but gave a strange answer when asked if she was meeting up with Cheryl Cole while the two of them were in Cannes. She  claimed: “I didn’t know Cheryl was arriving until yesterday.” (Weird given that (a) newspapers have been full of reports for the past week that Cheryl is earning an estimated 275,000 for a de grisogono jewellery gig and (b) even if she did only know yesterday that is more than 24 hours notice for them to hook up.

Sarah also spoke about new plans to be a film producer rather than an actor, revealing: “Coming to Cannes and seeing what crap films are on the market has made me think I could make something a lot better.

FOOD AND DRINK: Belvedere vodka…and I lined the stomach beforehand with some guys from Jalouse nightclub in posh Italian restaurant Villa Romano, orderng sashimi style tuna and lobster – yum!

Just when we thought that Lindsay Lohan was never going to get over her ex – DJ, Samantha Ronson – Linds announces that she has a new lady squeeze!

Lindsay has revealed that she has been dating photographer, Julia Indrani who at 36 is 13 years Lindsay’s senior! She’s got herself a sugar momma!

Julia and Lindsay met on a photoshoot last year and sparks flew.

Sources close to Lindsay have revealed that they are delighted that the pair have met each other. Julia is a Princeton graduate and isn’t in to the party scene so they are hoping that she will be a positive influence on the troubled 23 year old.

When asked about the relationship, Indrani said:

“I’ve never had a relationship with a woman before, but Lindsay is just somebody who i find fascinating, gorgeous and extremely smart, as well as super-hot”

“Lindsay gets a lot of bad press, but she’s a really strong, creative woman and is trying really hard to get her life in a good positive place”
